Veon is Ireland’s largest forestry and ecology management company and has been in business for over 30 years offering forest management services to woodland estate owners, investors and farmers. We manage approximately 15,000 ha of forests throughout Ireland ranging from commercial plantations to old woodland estates such as Coolattin Estate, Ballyfin Estate and Slane Castle Estate. Our commercial forestry plantations are managed to the highest standards and in 2021 Veon was successful in certifying over 4,000 ha of commercial plantations under the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC). We aim to broaden this to our entire forestry investor base over the coming years to meet the demand for certified timber from the timber processing sectors.

Over the last two decades, Veon has been the largest purchaser of commercial forestry plantations for investors generating more foreign direct investment into Irish forestry than any other Irish private forest management company. Our services are tailored towards maximising the commercial benefits of forestry for our clients. With delivery as a key goal, we established three forestry crews whose function it is to plant and maintain new forests. These crews are trained to the highest standards, delivering quality service in a timely manner.

Our Veon consultants have engaged in projects in China, Panama, Thailand and sub-Saharan Africa over the last decade and continue to provide expertise to our overseas clients.

As Europe transitions towards a green economy, forests and ecology services will have an increasingly important role in contributing to sustainable solutions for national and international climate challenges. Veon is at the forefront of helping our clients to find such solutions.  In 2020, Veon established Veon Ecology to meet the requirements of our forestry clients in procuring licences to carry out forestry activities.  Since then, Veon Ecology has established itself across other sectors providing a wide range of ecological and hydro-ecological services to a broad range of clients including government and non-government bodies together with corporate clients.

In 2022, Veon Arboriculture was established to provide tree survey and tree management services to corporations, public utilities, local authorities and developers. Veon Arboriculture is quickly establishing itself and synergies have developed with our ecology and forestry teams to provide solutions for our clients, making sure trees are safe, protected and managed to increase their lifespan.

All our foresters are technical members of the Society of Irish Foresters (SOIF) and on the Forest Service list of Registered Foresters. Our Veon Ecology team are members of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) and Veon is a CIEEM Registered Practice.  Our professionals constantly improve their knowledge through CPD-structured programmes in the Society of Irish Foresters and the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management.

We are constantly investing in our systems and staff to deliver the best possible solutions so that our clients can achieve their goals. Our management systems are based around Dynamics 365 with a custom-built user interface. This system is designed to help our teams manage day-to-day operations, communications with clients and stakeholders and licence applications. Dashboards within the system allow the management team to report and take action quickly and in real time. Our Geographic Information Systems are based around ESRI software and QGIS.  Our systems help our teams capture data in the field, and analyse and produce high-quality reports for our clients efficiently.

Veon is headquartered in Leopardstown, Dublin where the company’s management and administration is based. We have regional offices in Kilkenny city – Kilkenny, Newcastle West – Limerick, Oranmore – Galway, Carrick-on-Shannon – Leitrim and Edgeworthstown – Longford where our forestry and ecology teams are based close to the forests we manage enabling us to offer forest and ecology services nationwide.
